Dr. Hans Rosling

Professor of International Health

Dr. Hans Rosling is professor of international health, leading undergraduate and postgraduate global health courses, and former head of the Division of International Health at Karolinska Institutet (KI) in Stockholm, Sweden. He is co-founder of Gapminder Foundation, a nonprofit information technology venture with a mission “to unveil the beauty of statistics for a fact based world view. He now works as Director of Gapminder Foundation in Stockholm. He is mainly known as a key-note lecturer on global trends and his talks have been labeled “humorous but deadly serious”.

Dr. Rosling co-authored a global health text book while at KI and leads collaborative efforts between the university and other universities in low- and middle-income countries. Earlier in his career, Dr. Rosling managed health and hospital services in Mozambique and investigated an outbreak of a disease identified as a new neurological disease named konzo. Over the course of 20 years, he preformed field surveys investigating outbreaks of konzo in famine-threatened areas of five African countries.
