Position Title: Director
Reports to: President, Global Immunization
 
Position Summary:

The Director will serve as a subject-matter-expert in the area of international finance and health economics.  The incumbent will be responsible for spearheading the technical, operational and programmatic aspects of the Sustainable Immunization Financing program.  The incumbent must exhibit strong analytic skills, outstanding written and oral communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, good attention to detail, and ability to work successfully in multidisciplinary, multicultural teams.  The incumbent will collaborate closely with all departments in the organization and collaborate routinely with international partners.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee capacity building approaches and activities to collect and utilize economic and financial data to strengthen financial sustainability of immunization programs in project countries through evidence-based approaches to immunization budgeting and decision-making processes
  • Manage and direct projects, providing technical expertise on financing, budgeting and economics aspects of the Program that support sustainable immunization financing in project countries
  • Advise and support countries in building partnerships for strengthening immunization financing systems; engaging national, regional and global stakeholders; providing technical advice; and, helping organize peer exchanges for international project counterparts
  • Supervise and mentor assigned staff, including field staff, and coordinate activities and deliverables across project countries
  • Maintain communications with field staff and partner agency counterparts; providing technical advice and reviewing project documentation and work plans to assure that activities are appropriate and outcome-based
  • Provide technical assistance to support the design and execution of economic evaluations of immunization policies and programs in low and middle income countries and work with the country teams to interpret and communicate results of the analyses to relevant stakeholders
  • Manage project budgets and prepare and monitor quarterly, semi-annual and annual work plans
  • Foster and maintain contact with international partner agency representatives to advise and jointly monitor overall national immunization system developments in project countries and ensure that Program activities are contributing to fiscal sustainability
  • Advise on the creation and update of strategy documents and work plans, incorporating global immunization events, technical data and national immunization system information
  • Receive and cross-analyze reports from the field operations for each pilot country and periodically visit pilot countries and meet with field staff and their national counterparts
  • Participate in report writing, presentations, and publication of results and findings in peer-reviewed journals
  • Prepare progress/donor reports and other reports documenting milestones
  • Contribute to development and writing of proposals for new projects
  • Represent Sabin at international, regional and national meetings, and, where appropriate, present findings from research and analyses
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in economics, health economics, budgeting and finance, or a related field required; Doctorate degree in a related field preferred
  • 10-15 years relevant professional experience; international experience highly desirable
  • Demonstrated experience in economic methodologies, including forecasting; program evaluation; policy analysis; and, proposal and report writing
  • Direct experience working in a broad-based international development, government or non-profit environment
  • Experience working internationally in developing countries; public health knowledge, highly preferred
  • Ability to supervise multicultural, multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience dealing with and establishing successful working relationships with senior level government and NGO contacts, donors and business professionals
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple complex projects with various deadlines
  • Ability to independently analyze and resolve issues and problems at a strategic and functional level, including unique problems without precedent
  • Ability to travel internationally and work well with diverse cultures
  • Experience working within grant funding agreements preferred
  • Works across the organization, building strong relationships with colleagues
  • Must demonstrate interest in furthering Sabin’s mission
  • Fluency in French highly desirable
