Preventing typhoid can change communities. The primary goal of the Coalition is to define the barriers for the adoption of typhoid vaccines in the communities where they are needed most and the key activities that are needed to overcome them.

The section includes a traveler's account of his experience falling ill with typhoid fever and lessons learned about typhoid prevention. The unfortunate traveler in this case is Sabin's own Mike McQuestion, director of the Sustainable Immunization Financing Program.
A recent expert meeting on typhoid epidemiological modeling, organized by the Coalition against Typhoid, marks one of the first attempts to jolt governments into action against typhoid fever, a disease that is thriving largely unnoticed in many developing countries.
Harare, Zimbabwe has struggled to control an epidemic of typhoid fever that has affected the metropolitan area since October, 2011. Zimbabwe’s Health Ministry has reported 1,865 cases of typhoid fever thus far, averaging between 30 and 50 new cases per day, according to media sources. Although no deaths have been reported, the epidemic’s continued spread has had profound effects on local productivity and quality of life.
