Vaccine Advocacy and Education

Routinely vaccinating children in developing countries against Pneumococcal disease, Rotavirus, and Human Papillomavirus (HPV) may reduce child mortality by two-thirds by the year 2015. The Sabin Vaccine Institute is committed to raising awareness about these and other deadly childhood diseases in the developing world, and increasing access to safe and proven vaccines to help prevent their spread.

Sabin’s Vaccine Advocacy and Education team brings together policy makers, researchers, industry representatives, public health officials, healthcare professionals, diplomats, and others to share the latest research on diseases and vaccine development, discuss strategies for reducing global disease burdens, and develop and implement sustainable vaccination programs.

An Important Focus on Pneumococcal

Despite the availability of a safe and effective vaccine, Pneumococcal -- a highly infectious diease -- still kills an estimated 1.6 million people globally each year. Most victims of pneumococcal disease are children under 5 years old.

PACE (Pneumococcal Awareness Council of Experts), a program of the Sabin Vaccine Institute, raises awareness about the devastating impact of pneumococcal disease and advocates for the introduction of pneumococcal vaccines into national immunization schedules.
