Sabin receives fifth consecutive 4-star Charity Navigator rating

For the fifth year in a row, the Sabin Vaccine Institute has received Charity Navigator's highest rating, "for sound fiscal management and commitment to accountability and transparency." Charity Navigator is America's premier charity evaluator, providing donors with essential information needed to give them greater confidence in the charitable choices they make. Earlier this week 13 pharmaceutical companies*, together with several government and nongovernmental organizations**, pledged to find solutions to eliminate or control 10 neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) by the year 2020.

Last week in separate deals with the GAVI Alliance, the drug companies Pfizer and GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) agreed to increase sales of cut-price pneumonia vaccines by 180 million doses, a 50% increase from previous commitments.

Gift giving can become tiresome. There is the shopping, and the wondering if your online shipment will arrive in time, or worse, actually going to a mall. There is the wrapping, but remember, not before you fly. Then, of course, there is the deflated feeling that it really doesn’t matter.

Merck Serono plans to double its donation from 25 million tablets to 50 million tablets and will continue a commitment to donations indefinitely, until schistosomiasis has been eliminated in Africa.
