Advocacy Project for Sustainable Immunization FinancingEvery year two million young lives are saved by vaccines. A million more in the developing world are within reach, with the advent of new and underutilized vaccines. Immunization programs are helping countries meet the Millenium Development Goal of cutting child mortality by two-thirds by 2015. Vaccines are one of the best buys a country can make: less than US$20 spent to immunize a child brings an added year of healthy life. But as national immunization programs expand and newer vaccines are introduced, costs are rising faster than budgets. Developing countries must find new ways to finance their immunization systems if they are to tackle looming fiscal gaps and provide this essential public good. Funded by a generous grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, The Advocacy Project helps governments secure long-term, sustainable immunization financing, a goal we believe can be achieved in five years or less. We work with ministries of health, ministries of finance, parliaments and civil society. Our efforts are coordinated with the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization partner agencies, including the World Health Organization, UNICEF, the World Bank Group, vaccine manufacturers and others. Together, we are building a healthy world. |
