ACIP Chairs and EPI Managers
The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) is a group of 15 immunization experts who assist in determining vaccination recommendations for the United States. Based on their own knowledge, as well as research results, committee recommendations, cost-effective analyses and a range of other information, the ACIP recommends which vaccines should be used, which populations should be vaccinated, and how frequently the vaccinations should be administered
In the last two years Sabin has brought 26 delegates from 6 countries to Atlanta, Georgia, USA to participate in the ACIP meetings, as well as the ancillary workshops with partners such as the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO). Latin American ACIP Chairs and Expanded Program of Immunization (EPI) Managers help to introduce participants not only to the latest recommendations and experts in the field, but also to the process involved in determining immunization recommendations in the U.S. This information, combined with the opportunity to meet with experts on vaccination in smaller groups, can help the Latin American participants make vaccination recommendations in their home countries. The meetings also help improve vaccine review processes, with the goal of improved vaccine coverage in the Americas.
