The media plays an important role in public awareness of diseases and the benefits of immunization.
Sabin hosts training sessions to connect journalists with public health experts to deepen their understanding of the science of vaccines. Journalists learn about variety of topics, including an introduction to vaccinology and clinical trials, successful control of vaccine-preventable diseases, current vaccines on the market and vaccine safety. The concepts covered prepare journalists to report on the many vaccine-related issues that may arise in their local communities.
Previous sessions have been held in Peru, Brazil and Chile and have trained more than 70 journalists from 18 countries to drive more effective, accurate media coverage. Planning is underway for 2017 sessions; inquiries can be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org.
