Dr. Mathuram Santosham Receives 2014 Albert B. Sabin Gold Medal Award

WASHINGTON, D.C. – April 29, 2014 – The Sabin Vaccine Institute today will present its annual Albert B. Sabin Gold Medal Award to Dr. Mathuram Santosham for his pioneering role in the prevention of deadly H. influenzae type b (Hib) diseases, including pediatric bacterial meningitis and pneumonia. Dr. Santosham’s leadership in conducting groundbreaking research, vaccine efficacy trials and advocacy to prioritize Hib vaccines spans more than 40 years and has saved millions of children’s lives worldwide.

Each year since 1994 the Sabin Vaccine Institute has  recognized distinguished members of the scientific community  with its highest honor, the Albert B. Sabin Gold Medal Award.  Gold Medal Award winners have made significant contributions  to vaccinology or a complementary field.

In order to nominate your colleague for the Gold Medal Award, provide a one-page explanation of the nominee’s most important vaccine research or advocacy contributions and why you believe they are particularly important. 2009 Gold Medal Awards Announcement Ceremony Coming Soon

Sabin is eagerly anticipating its upcoming announcement of this year’s Gold Medal award winners on April 28th. This special recognition has been awarded annually since 1994 and is given to a distinguished member of the research community who has made extraordinary contributions in the field of vaccinology or a complementary field. Each recipient is recognized as a role model for young researchers, someone whose career has saved lives through the development and use of vaccines.
