Washington, DC – July 19, 2011 – Neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), which primarily affect poor people in developing countries, are now being found among the poor in relatively affluent regions as well, particularly in parts of Eastern Europe with a history of war and conflict. This is the focus of a new article in the International Journal of Infectious Diseases authored by Dr. Peter Hotez, President of the Sabin Vaccine Institute, and Meredith Gurwith of Georgetown University.

The XIX Meeting of the Technical Advisory Group (TAG) was held from July 6-8, 2011 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Experts from the Pan American Health Organization / World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) gathered to acknowledge great strides made in vaccine development and distribution, along with discussing next steps for future success.

The Academy of Medicine, Engineering and Science of Texas (TAMEST) welcomed Sabin President Dr. Peter Hotez as one of its six newest members today.
TAMEST, founded in 2004, brings together Texas’ top scientific, academic and corporate minds to further position the state as a national research leader and to provide broader recognition of the state's top achievers in medicine, engineering and science. Members include Texas Nobel Laureates and more than 240 National Academies members.
