Today the Decade of Vaccines (DoV) Collaboration released the final, illustrated version of the Global Vaccine Action Plan (GVAP), with a foreword by the DoV Collaboration Leadership Council, photographs, charts and important annexes.

The GVAP started as a vision for a “Decade of Vaccines” – a world in which all individuals and communities enjoy lives free from vaccine-preventable diseases. The DoV Collaboration was thus formed to pool the collective expertise of vaccine, health and development experts from around the world to develop a plan to make this vision a reality.

Endorsed by the Sixty-fifth World Health Assembly in May 2012, the GVAP reiterates existing goals and sets new goals for the decade, proposes six strategic objectives and the actions that will support their achievement, and provides an initial estimate of resource requirements and return on investment. Since WHA endorsement, additional annexes have been prepared with key metrics and indicators for the decade, as well as a full list of contributing individuals, organizations and countries.

The DoV Collaboration leadership, along with all partners – governments and elected officials, health professionals, academia, manufacturers, global agencies, development partners, civil society, media and the private sector – are committed to achieving the ambitious goals of the GVAP.

The success of the GVAP will be one of the most enduring legacies for today’s children and the generations who follow them. It is meant to be a resource to be used, discussed and adapted to fit the needs of each region and country.
