How can we better foster life-long immunization practices, particularly in adolescence? Recently the Sabin Vaccine Institute convened the first of three regional workshops to discuss issues related to adolescent immunization in the context of adolescent health. The first two-day interactive workshop was held in in Dubai, United Arab Emirates; additional workshops will be held in Asia and Latin America in 2018.
Last month, the Center for Strategic and International Studies hosted a vaccine film festival to showcase films that inspire action to improve child health through the power of vaccines. 5 videos from the event are posted on the Results blog.
Tyler Sharp, an Epidemic Intelligence Service officer at CDC’s Dengue Breach, shared his experience as a member of the response team in an interesting two-part blog series entitled, “Real-life Contagion: Governments unite to fight dengue outbreak in Marshall Islands.” (The series was published in December 2011 shortly after the Hollywood thriller Contagion was released. The movie documented the spread of a virus and the attempts of public health officials to contain the disease. )
The Coalition against Typhoid (CaT) website now features information about typhoid for travelers. The section includes a traveler's account of his experience falling ill with typhoid fever and lessons learned about typhoid prevention. The unfortunate traveler in this case is Sabin's own Mike McQuestion, director of the Sustainable Immunization Financing Program.
