The latest in the series of SIF briefings for parliamentarians in Sierra Leone took place 6th June in the Hotel Bintumani Complex in Aberdeen, just outside Freetown.

 Over the past year, there have been serious typhoid outbreaks in Indonesia, the Philippines and India. These outbreaks are in addition to the endemic typhoid burden found in throughout Southeast Asia.

During June-July, Sabin’s Sustainable Immunization Financing Program is organizing a series of legislative workshops that will take place both at sub-regional (country clusters), national and subnational levels. Eleven SIF countries are participating.

Neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) were on the agenda this week at the Sixty-fifth session of the World Health Assembly (WHA) in Geneva, Switzerland.
 
A major milestone was reached when the WHA today approved a new resolution on elimination of schistosomiasis.
