The Sabin Vaccine Institute (Sabin) in conjunction with the Regional Office for Africa of the World Health Organization (AFRO) recently organized the “African Regional Consultation for Measles & Rubella/CRS Elimination” in Accra, Ghana.
From 27-29 November, over 85 Immunization Program Managers, Pediatric Society Leaders and other partners and stakeholders from 37 countries gathered to review the efforts being made to eliminate measles and control rubella/CRS in the African region.
This meeting marked the first time that both Immunization Managers and the leaders of their National Pediatric Societies gathered together to review ongoing technical activities related to the national and regional immunization efforts in Africa.
Sabin will continue to collaborate with other members of the Measles-Rubella Initiative and in particular work with the International Pediatric Association (IPA) to further involve Pediatricians and develop effective advocacy strategies in working towards the elimination of measles and rubella /CRS.
