The Pontifical Council for Health Care Workers will host an International Conference on neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) and rare diseases November 10-12, 2016, at the Vatican, planned in partnership with the Sabin Vaccine Institute. Pope Francis will speak at the conference with an address and audience in Paul VI Hall.

Sabin’s President, Dr. Peter Hotez, an internationally recognized physician-scientist in NTDs and vaccine development, will help open the conference with a keynote address on NTDs. NTDs and rare diseases will be addressed separately in subsequent sessions. A patient with the NTD lymphatic filariasis (elephantiasis) has been invited to speak alongside leaders including Beatrice Lorenzin, Minister of Health of Italy, at the three-day conference, joined by more than 500 leading researchers, Catholic officials and policy makers from around the globe.
