PRAGUE – Routine vaccination against pneumococcal diseases would save millions of lives throughout the world. This was announced at yesterday’s seminar held by the Pneumococcal Awareness Council of Experts (PACE). Pneumococcal disease causes pneumonia, encephalitis or barotitis. In the Czech Republic, four hundred people fall ill each year and 14 percent of infected children below fi ve die. The routine vaccination for children is currently available in sixteen member countries of the EU and is now being prepared for the Czech Republic as well.
