The Sabin Vaccine Institute expresses its deepest condolences to family, friends and colleagues of the Honorable Richard C. Holbrooke, who died yesterday.

Ambassador Holbrooke, a diplomat, AIDS activist, and public servant, was the recipient of Sabin’s 2002 Lifetime Achievement Award for leadership and dedication to securing adequate healthcare for the world’s most vulnerable populations. He clearly recognized the strong relationship between science, medicine and diplomacy for the benefit of humanity.

Prior to joining the Global Network for Neglected Tropical Diseases as managing director earlier this year, Dr. Neeraj Mistry had the pleasure of working with Ambassador Holbrooke for six years at the Global Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria: “He was a giant among men. The legacy of his work will certainly be carried on through the work of the Global Network and others dedicated to alleviating poverty through improved healthcare.”
