Dr. Peter Hotez notes that Chikungunya -- an insect borne disease reecntly found in the Americas for the first time -- will be hard to diagnose due to its similarity to Dengue.

"Diagnosis will be made harder by chikungunya's similarity to dengue, known as breakbone fever for the debilitating pain it also causes. Poor people are most at risk because they have less protection from mosquitoes, warns Peter Hotez of Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, but they are unlikely to be diagnosed with an exotic foreign virus – especially since most doctors do not have a specific test for the virus."
