New vaccination will save children’s lives

PRAGUE – Routine vaccination against pneumococcal diseases would save millions of lives throughout the world. This was announced at yesterday’s seminar held by the Pneumococcal Awareness Council of Experts (PACE). Pneumococcal disease causes pneumonia, encephalitis or barotitis. In the Czech Republic, four hundred people fall ill each year and 14 percent of infected children below fi ve die.

Vaccination against pneumococcal disease would provide necessary protection to children. Pneumococcus causes pneumonia, encephalitis or barotitis. 16 countries of the EU have already introduced routine vaccination, which is now being considered in the Czech Republic.
