WASHINGTON, D.C. — Feb. 8, 2016 — On Monday, the World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General, Dr. Margaret Chan, declared Zika a Public Health Emergency International Concern (PHEIC), because of growing concerns of the suspected association between Zika and the rise in detected cases of congenital malformations and neurological complications in newborn babies.

Mr. Kelley is a Harvard Senior Advanced Leadership Fellow, focusing on global health, biosecurity and the market inefficiency leading to a lack of vaccines against neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) and emerging pandemic threats. Dr. Orange is chief of Immunology, Allergy and Rheumatology, and professor and section head for Immunology, Allergy and Rheumatology in the pediatrics department at Baylor College of Medicine.
