Novartis today announced that it has entered into a development and licensing agreement with Biological E Limited (BioE), a biopharmaceutical company based in India, for two vaccines to protect against typhoid and paratyphoid fevers. Peter J. Hotez, president of the Sabin Vaccine Institute and dean of the new National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine, addressed concerns from lawmakers about the relationship between immigration and NTDs. Hotez acknowledged that immigration may be contributing to the incidence of NTDs in the US, but that poverty played a big role.
