The Sabin Rising Star Award

Celebrating an early-career researcher whose work shows tremendous promise to advance immunization for the next generation

The Sabin Rising Star Award honors an early-career professional who demonstrates a commitment to the field of immunization. First awarded in 2020, the Rising Star Award is an effort to highlight the extraordinary work and global health contributions of people around the world regardless of their age, gender, location, or field of work.

The Sabin Rising Star Award is an extension of the Sabin Gold Medal, awarded annually since 1994.

Nomination Criteria

The Rising Star Award is conferred based on the following criteria:

  • Exemplifies the Sabin Vaccine Institute’s mission to make vaccines more accessible, enable innovation and expand immunization across the globe
  • Working to materially improve access to vaccines, impact vaccine research and development or enable innovation to expand immunization
  • Demonstrates leadership and a commitment to improving the health of all people, everywhere
  • Is a scientist, researcher or public health leader

We seek nominations that reflect the diversity of global health work, unrestricted by gender, race or ethnicity, location or field of work.

Sangwe Clovis Nchinjoh, MD, MPH, MS

2023 Sabin Rising Star Recipient

Dr. Nchinjoh is a public health physician and researcher in Cameroon. His work primarily focuses on generating evidence on the best approaches to identifying, mapping, and vaccinating zero-dose children in missed communities and conflict settings.
