Fact-based reporting by the media is one of the most influential vehicles to promote health literacy and public health. With an information ecosystem increasingly populated by misinformation and disinformation, accurate health reporting is needed now, more than ever.
To that end, Sabin developed Immunization Advocates to support medical and media professionals with educational resources and connect journalists to health experts to help them report accurately on immunization.
Journalists can reach out to health professionals using our Find An Expert tool, or connect in person at one of our regional workshops. Built on nearly a decade of experience training journalists across Latin America so they are better prepared to accurately report on immunization, Sabin now offers workshops around the world for both journalists and health professionals.
Sabin has trained 130 journalists from 20 countries to drive more effective, accurate media coverage at workshops in Romania, Peru, Brazil and Chile. After attending our 2018 workshops, 98% of participants reported feeling better prepared to write about or serve as a source on immunization. Planning is underway for additional workshops; inquiries can be sent to [email protected].
Immunization Advocates also offers educational resources including:
- Slide kits and lecture guides for health professionals
- Infographics for use in reporting, presentations and sharing on social media
- Links to reputable resources from the World Health Organization; the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance; and others
- Fact sheets on immunization and vaccine-preventable diseases
