This Mother’s Day, Give Your Kids a Shot at a Healthy Future
Happy Mother’s Day!
This month, we asked moms that we knew, moms that we didn’t and moms that we admire to simply share why they get their kids vaccinated. This is what they had to say.

“My child is vaccinated because… I love him and want to protect him from these horrible diseases. I took excellent care of him while I was pregnant, so why would I stop doing that after he was born?”
Congresswoman Schrier strongly encourages parents to meet with their pediatrician, learn about the benefits of immunization, and get their children vaccinated!
“My kids are vaccinated because I don’t want them to suffer and miss school due to common, preventable, childhood illnesses.”
Farah is a pediatrician, epidemiologist and a mother who works to ensure that every child has a healthy start to life through her dedicated research to understand the impact of antimicrobial resistance in South Asia.
“My kids and grandkids are vaccinated because that’s the best way of protecting children from deadly diseases like measles, rubella and diphtheria.”
Dr. Maitra is a public health physician with more than 30 years of experience in the field. She has dedicated her whole life to ensuring that everyone gets access to quality healthcare, including life-saving vaccines.
“I encourage moms to get their kids vaccinated because I know firsthand how heartbreaking it is to lose a child to a preventable disease, and it also gives my other children and the community the best possible protection against these horrible diseases.”
Ever since she lost Amie, her 19 day old baby to whooping cough, a vaccine-preventable disease, Sharyn’s days are dedicated to amplifying the benefits of immunization among parents.
“My kids are vaccinated because my mom lost a brother to tetanus at eight days of life – it is a safe and effective way to save lives and keep my kids healthy!”
As a doctor, Ruchi enjoys advocating for children’s issues in her community and the benefits of immunization is high on her list!
“To vaccinate our children is to protect our children. What parent wouldn’t want to protect their child against a vaccine-preventable disease? I wish I could have protected my daughter against Meningitis B.”
Patti lost her beautiful young daughter, Kimberly, to a vaccine-preventable disease and now leads a foundation in her honor to educate the public and healthcare professionals about bacterial meningitis (meningococcal disease).
“My kids are vaccinated because they are the most precious people in the world to me, and the thought of losing them to an easily preventable disease is unconscionable.”
Kim works with other parents in South Carolina, United States, to advocate for increased vaccination rates in the state so that children in her community can be protected from deadly childhood diseases.
“My kids are vaccinated because many kids can’t be protected from serious illnesses. When I vaccinate my kids, I am protecting yours.”
