Latin America Meningococcal Workshop
Sabin together with the Oswaldo Cruz Institute, Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Brazil) and the Austral University School of Medicine (Argentina) convened the Latin America Meningococcal Workshop from 12-13 December, 2018, in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. 57 meningococcal disease stakeholders from 14 countries in the region came together to discuss the bacterial surveillance and epidemiology of the disease in the region, the effectiveness of current surveillance strategies and their implications for control and prevention interventions.
Agenda topics included:
- Review of meningococcal epidemiology by sub-regions
- Overview of surveillance systems implemented in the region including: case definitions and type of surveillance
- Outbreak definitions and interventions
- Currently available vaccines and those in the pipeline
