On August 11-12, 2015 thirty-eight experts in meningococcal disease from 11 countries gathered in São Paulo, Brazil to review current and possible future surveillance strategies and their implications for control and prevention interventions against meningococcal disease. 

The workshop convened by the Sabin Vaccine Institute, the Universidad de los Andes (Chile) and the Santa Casa de São Paulo (Brazil) brought together various stakeholders in the meningococcal field including EPI Managers, Surveillance Officers, Laboratory Scientists and others to discuss the state of meningococcal disease and explore possible solutions to improving surveillance data to better inform vaccination strategies.

A summary report of the group’s discussions and conclusions of the meeting is underway and will be posted here upon completion.
