V Ciro de Quadros Vaccinology Course for Latin America
The V Ciro de Quadros Vaccinology Course for Latin America was organized by the Sabin Vaccine Institute in conjunction with The University of the Andes in Santiago, Chile from 7-11 December, 2015.
Expanding vaccination coverage and introducing new vaccines against hepatitis B, Haemophilus Influenzae type b (Hib), rotavirus, human papilloma virus (HPV), and pneumococcal disease are the goals of many national immunization systems worldwide. In recent years mass vaccination campaigns in Latin America have resulted in significant progress in improving health throughout the region. These results are encouraging but more can be done. Moreover, as more vaccines become available it becomes more and more crucial to understand the current guidelines and recommendations regarding vaccinations. It is crucial to ensure that officials in charge of immunization services understand the latest policies and technical guidelines as well as the current needs for their countries.
At the V Ciro de Quadros Vaccinology Course for Latin America 36 delegates from 13 countries and over 20 expert speakers in vaccinology gathered to discuss the fundamentals of epidemiology, immunology as well as current vaccines and immunization recommendations, issues surrounding vaccination and immunization campaigns, funding mechanisms and effective use of communications.
