Comprehensive Review on Influenza Disease and Vaccine to Prevent It— Or Why Can’t I Get a Flu Shot?
Flu Vaccine Experts from Sabin Vaccine Institute and CDC, Present Davidoff-Sabin Health Science Lecture
NEW CANAAN, CT — Fever, cough, aches and chills mean one thing to most of us as the winter months draw near—influenza, the flu, is circulating again in our community. If we could avoid the misery and potential complications, most of us would choose to do so. Each year, we hope there will be plentiful vaccine, yet once again we have scarce supply. Only those who are in a defined risk group can receive the vaccine, due to the well-publicized shortage.
The Sabin Vaccine Institute will present a town-hall public forum on influenza as a Davidoff-Sabin Health Science Lecture at the New Canaan Library. The meeting will include two expert presentations addressing the elements that converged to create the current influenza vaccine crisis, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) response, important facts about flu surveillance, future need to immunize, vaccine supply shortages, the potential of pandemic flu, and global planning for a coordinated response to a pandemic avian influenza outbreak. Presentations will be followed with a question and answer period.
