John Paul Clark

Dr. John Paul Clark is a respected global health expert with extensive knowledge of global immunization architecture, finance, and funding and with substantial in-country experience in sub-Saharan Africa and South, Central, and East Asia. During his 20-year career with the World Bank, Clark’s expansive portfolio included technical and policy work, including leading strategic investments in regional disease surveillance and response capacity and country operations for the Bank’s focus on women, children, and adolescents. Earlier in his career, Clark held senior positions at the World Health Organization in Geneva, the USAID Bureau for Africa and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Throughout his 35-year career, he has made contributions to public health research, policy, and practice in malaria prevention and treatment, disease control, maternal and child health, and global health security.
Clark earned a doctorate in international health systems from the Johns Hopkins University, as well as advanced training and degrees in infectious disease epidemiology, health finance and management, and international relations. He holds a Master of Science in Economics in social policy and planning from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
In addition to his role with Sabin, Clark serves on the Board of Directors of Management Sciences for Health (MSH) and the Advisory Board of the Primary Health Care Coalition (PHCC). He is active in student and professional mentorship and serves as a Scientific Review Lead and Subject Matter Expert for the Gates Foundation. His present focus is on climate and epidemic-ready primary health care in low-income countries.
